Ben Folds to tour with pop siren Tori Amos this summer
Baldwin artist Ben Folds will take "Scarlet's Walk" with Tori Amos this summer for six weeks as her special guest, beginning July 26 in Redmond, Wa. and finishing up Sept. 4 in West Palm Beach, Fla. The tour supports Amos' latest critically acclaimed album, Scarlet's Walk, which Rolling Stone calls "a misty mountain hop across a mythical America, blurring the line between the sacred and the erotic, Cherokee prayers and porn-star lap dances, New Age and Led Zeppelin."
Folds' latest album, Ben Folds Live, is 70 minutes of edgy, rollicking magic recorded over the course of 60 live shows on an eight-track recorder. Folds listened to the rough tapes as he drove from state to state during his "Ben Folds and a Piano" tour and chose the best performances.
"We just wanted to capture the dynamics and the feel of the live shows, because we knew we kind of had something cool," Folds said in an interview for the Gibson/Baldwin Player. "There was something special going on, it was like a big living room sing-along. It seemed so completely un-rock and roll in one way, but it was just a bunch of kids. It's not an easy thing to capture on tape."
Folds will perform his hour-long set on a Baldwin SF10 Artist Grand. He'll also be headlining several festivals throughout the summer and co-headlining a show with Aimee Mann at Central Park Summerstage in New York City on Aug. 20.
