Baldwin debuts affordable, eco-friendly D.H. Baldwin line
Baldwin introduces a new standard of affordability in an American-made piano with the D.H. Baldwin line. The series includes a 5-foot 2-inch grand and the 560 series vertical models, which are available in traditional and distressed finishes as well as Lyptus veneer, a completely renewable wood.
"The piano is an educational instrument for the whole family, and the new D.H. Baldwin series makes it possible for nearly everyone to own a good piano," says Henry Juskiewicz, Gibson/Baldwin chairman and CEO. "The new line is also the first time Baldwin has used a sustainable harvested wood in a piano model, which is better for our environment."
The D.H. Baldwin grand comes in a satin ebony or satin cherry finish. The 560 vertical series is available in a 43-inch and 45-inch model and five different finishes. The 43-inch model comes in satin cherry and satin brown cherry finishes, distressed cherry and distressed brown cherry, and lyptus with a clear finish. The 45-inch model comes in mahogany and cherry-stained lyptus and lyptus with a clear finish.
Lyptus, obtained from hybrid noble eucalyptus trees, is a high quality hardwood grown on plantations in Brazil. It is a managed crop and is grown in an environmentally-responsible manner.
Baldwin has been "America's Favorite Piano" since 1862, when former music teacher D.H. Baldwin opened his music store in Cincinnati, Ohio. At the turn of the twentieth century, Baldwin pianos won international awards, and by the end of the century Baldwin was the largest American piano maker. Baldwin joined Gibson Guitar Corp. in 2001, and is now headquartered in Nashville. The Baldwin family of brands includes Wurlitzer, Chickering, Ellington and D.H. Baldwin.
