The GIBSON & Baldwin Player
volume 1 issue 1 - September 2002

Hello Gibson/Baldwin Lovers!
Here is our very first edition of The Gibson/Baldwin Player, a new monthly e-zine that delivers full-length features about Gibson and Baldwin artists and new instruments in production, as well as news about events and happenings in the wide, wide world of Gibson/Baldwin.
For this inaugural edition, we've focused on our Latin artists, in honor of the 3rd annual Latin Grammy Awards tomorrow, Sept 18.
Cover Feature: Hot Guitarist Andy Abad
Andy Abad loves a good musical stretch. Currently on tour with Marc Anthony's pop and salsa bands, Abad did a stint with the Backstreet Boys in 2001 and recorded a South African-flavored song, "Hear Me Lord," with Bonnie Raitt for her latest album, Silver Lining.
Gibson Signature Artist Profile: Latin Rock Pioneer Trini Lopez
In the middle of the folk music boom in 1963, a young Mexican-American named Trini Lopez took folk favorites, such as "If I Had a Hammer" and "Lemon Tree," and supercharged them with a three-piece combo arrangement, driven by Trini himself strumming an electric guitar. His live recordings rocked folk music with an engaging Latin energy that the coming generation of folk-rockers never captured. More about Trini here.
From the Archives: Ellington pianos return
Ellington pianos, which Gibson/Baldwin unveiled at summer NAMM, may seem like new kids on the block, but in the early years of the 20th century, the old Ellington factory in Cincinnati shipped out pianos to destinations all over the world. Read more about it.
Instrument spotlight: Gibson Firebirds are heating up
They're everywhere, from the European Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young tour to the "Today" show - Gibson Firebirds are making a bold comeback both stateside and overseas.
More about the Firebirds here.
The News about Gibson/Baldwin: Moves and Grooves
A future episode of MTV's show "Becoming" with hot newcomer Avril Lavigne will feature exclusively Gibson gear. To read more about where we're going and where we've been lately, check out our news column.
Enjoy.
