All Gibson acoustics now Hydrophobic
Gibson Hydrophobic acoustic guitar strings have some new and extremely discriminating fans --the world-class luthiers at Gibson Montana. Now all Gibson Montana acoustic guitars are strung and shipped with the phosphor bronze wound Hydrophobic Acoustic Bronze strings.
Gibson Strings & Original Equipment pioneered and perfected a new polymer treatment that protects guitar strings from moisture and makes them last far longer than untreated strings--with no loss of tonal quality or natural feel.
"Gibson Hydrophobic strings bring guitarists up to speed with the polymer technology in the aerospace and medical industries," says Henry Juszkiewicz, chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar Corp. "They represent the biggest technological advance in string design since Gibson introduced Monel steel strings in the early thirties to replace copper wire."
Gibson Hydrophobic strings go through a proprietary, patent-applied-for process that impregnates the gaps between windings and core wire with a molecular-thin polymer material that repels water, dirt and other contaminants without coloring the tone or adversely affecting the feel or tonal performance of the string. The natural vibrations of the string combine with the repellent nature of the polymer to create a mechanical displacement of dirt, oil and moisture. Hydrophobic phosphor bronze acoustic strings enhance the full tonal spectrum of your guitar, with crisp highs, punchy mids and well-defined lows.
Many Gibson dealers have been raving about the new strings and ordered them, including leading national retailer Guitar Center, who has them chain-wide, and internet/catalog retailer Musicians Friend.
Another kudo from top Northwest guitarist and "early adopter" Carl Tosten: "Wow!!!! Six hours and two gigs later they still sound really good. I don't even wipe them down. I know, I know, I'm bad. Just seeing what they will do; feel like dipping them in mud to see if that will slow them down. They are great and still have some brilliance left in them. Roughly 12 hours on them non-stop, really. I think that is more constant play than the average guy will ever do."
