SamBush - This is the real Sam Bush, let the questions begin
Woody - When is the Grisman/Bush cd due?
SamBush - Dave and I hope to get together soon to complete it. No release date yet.
Woody - Can you tell us any of the tunes that will be on it?
SamBush - Woody, I can only tell you, our working title is "Hold On, We're Strummin". So, far almost all original tunes written by Dave and I.
unclesam - hello uncle sam
SamBush - Hi Jason, nice to see you yesterday, the cookies are wonderful.
discountdan - Sam.. this is directed only to you.. I am a voice from the past... Danny Hoskins from Southern Indiana... an old friend I hope and NGR fan...
SamBush - Hey Danny nice hearing from you.
discountdan - Do you remember me.... big guy.. lived with Courtney?? Just wanted to let you know I'm still alive and still a fan
SamBush - Sure, Dan. Glad you're doing well.
pdinges - will you put your "old"; cassette mandolin lessons on cd soon? please?? and welcome!
SamBush - We'll talk to the fine folks at Homespun tapes and try to put that in motion
sundance - Are you and the Dawg going to tour
SamBush - We'll tour if David promises to be a good boy.
karahnazor - who is dave?
SamBush - Dave, is the "Dawg" David Grisman.
karahnazor - of course!
chasb29 - Hi Sam. Just saw the woodsong video. Great!!
unclesam - uncle sam good to see you ill talk to you soon
Megafrank2 - Any chance you might come to Michigan for any shows?
Alison - Hi Sam! Or Chicago? Pleeeaseeee???
SamBush - Nothing scheduled at this time, but watch SamBush.com for upcoming tour dates.
ffsteve - how about playin in upstate ny(hi sam)
pdinges - sorry for the repeat post. yes, i agree...upstate ny would be a good choice. but, not albany, please. greyfox festival is in july...
pdinges - hey, sam, i'm 46, married (happily) 23 years... and still have a crush on you! but, the husband says it's ok. just wanted you to know! haha!!
SamBush - pdinges, That's always a nice thing to hear, Tell your husband HI
pdinges - chuckle...............
drifter - Hi Sam:
SamBush - Hi drifter
discountdan - Are you going to the Christmas jam in Louisville? Would love to see you one more time!
muddyford - Sam, I just wanted to tell you how much my wife and I love seeing live in concert at the Folklife Festival in Frankfort and the Woodsongs show.
SamBush - muddyford, Always a pleasure to play in the bluegrass state, see you soon!
sundance - can't wait to see you at fall strawberry
SamBush - sundane, we hope to see you there
drifter - I am a mando player of about 4 years (my Gibson is my baby) and a fiddle player of about 3 years. I tend to make my greatest advances in playing ability
karahnazor sam - do you practice a lot to learn something new, or just play it?
SamBush - karahnazor - When I practice it is to learn something new, or to try to compose a new tune
Pam - hey sammy
drifter - Can you remember the defining moments or events that did the most to improve your playing and how they affected your playing?
SamBush - drifter - 1969 Camp Springs, NC on stage with the Bluegrass Alliance and Mac Wiseman I was a senior in High school, my first time on stage in front of a BG festival audience Mac played "I wonder how the old folks are at home" and when I soloed I played every lick I knew Mac thought I was lost, then I did get lost, then we both were lost It was a hell of a mess I learned at that moment, to play for the song and play THE song
Woody - Damn Good advice!
pdinges - ahhh, good lesson. thank you, sam...
praisehim - Sam, what pickup do you used and where is it placed?
SamBush - praisehim - Barcus/Berry HotDot wedged in between the two bridge pieces
praisehim - I bought a McIntyre and it's right behind the bridge. I don't like the "micro phonic cable syndrome." You can tap the cable and it goes through the sky
dbo2 - Do you have any gigs with John Cowan in the near future, if so where and when
SamBush - dbo2 - Nothing scheduled with Cowan, but we know we'll run in to each other
discountdan - Does Duckbutter ever raise its beak and quack anymore?
SamBush - discountdan - with the Ducks, we forgot to play in the year 2000, but maybe we'll quack up in the year 02
Pam - you have impressed my son so much, don't know if you remember him or not, we took him to see you in Charlotte at the neighborhood theatre, he's the 13 year old banjo player named Justin
muddyford - Sam, how often do you play in Dorian Mode?
SamBush - muddyford - Not often, but I've been told I have that Dorian Grey thing going
martin - Sam, who's music are you listening at this time?
SamBush - martin - John McLaughlin, Eric Clapton "Reptile", Jorma Kaukonen "Christmas", "The Christmas Album" on Columbia Classic
jdschenk - Any plans for a NEW YEARS party at the Station Inn
SamBush - jdschenk - We'll be in Boulder for New Year's Eve
pdinges - oh... we recently saw natalie macmaster here in poughkeepsie, ny. now the two of you would make a WONDERFUL duet!! would you consider it?
SamBush - pdinges - Sure, I'd consider it, but I doubt if Natalie would :) She's a wonderful musician
pdinges - hmmm...ok.
sloany - Hi Sam. Thanks for coming all the way to Minnesota not once but twice this year.
Christa Sam, are you going to invite the talented ten year old girl to play a song with you at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival?
SamBush - Christa - I think you may have to 18 to play on stage in Colorado, I'm not sure
SamBush - She is a wonderful mandolin player with great potential
sloany as long as we're on the pickup subject, how about the fiddle?
SamBush - sloany - Barcus/Berry Bridge pickup approx 5 years old
praisehim - Can't wait until Merlefest! You're going to be there right?
Pam - love your wife Lynn, very sweet
SamBush - Pam - I think so too, thanks for saying that
Pam - she was really nice to my son also he got a pick and of course autographs
discountdan - Gotta go.. Thanks for answering.. glad you remember me.. you seem bigger than life now with all this high tech.. glad I knew you back when...
muddyford - Sam, are you going to be back in Kentucky in the upcoming year?
SamBush - muddyford - Yes, but nothing scheduled yet - oh wait Franklin, KY in April
karahnazor - the night sam played at woodsongs, nov 5th, was the night of aurora borealis. I saw it in Lex after your show. sam-did you see it?
SamBush - karahnazor - No, I missed it
 | | He tunes because he cares! |
holysnakes - i cant wait for you to come back to colorado for the new years show

holysnakes - im tuning up for the show right now
praisehim - Sam, I will never forget when NGR played Denton,N.C. on Friday night and opened with Friday night in America! WOW!
SamBush - praisehim - Is that the weekend Jimmy Martin got married on stage?
praisehim - might have been. Was one of your last performances if I remember correctly.
TimM - Sam, its time for you to make another appearance in NC
sarahc - and looking forward to the march show @ the fox in boulder. anything confirmed for denver in march??
Woody - Is it true that you are currently the high bidder on Ebay for a pair of Bill Monroe's old shoes?
SamBush - woody - No, but once he came on Emmylou's Nash Rambler tour bus, and I was just coming out of the back lounge with no shoes on, he was surprised to see me and said "I've got some shoes if you need them"
Woody - Mighty big shoes to fill!
seale - Speaking of great openings, every one I've heard you play is great, but the national anthem at the Egg was truly special. Thank you.
SamBush - seale - Thanks, it's truly heartfelt and seems appropriate at this time - probably next year we'll stop
Pam - national anthem rocked in charlotte too
Harold - Hi Sam, I've played a couple of your new Gibson Mandolin and they were very impressive! Are they living up to your expectations?
SamBush - Harold - Yes they are! It's nice to know that I can leave the house now without Hoss and be satisfied with the sound and feel of the new instruments
sully - sam, just got a sam bush mandolin, what a jewel
SamBush - I've got a new one that is so good now that some of my mandolin buddies are saying that it sounds better than Hoss
pdinges - this is a blast! thanx for taking the time to do this, Sam. (noo need to respond - you have your hands full!)
John - Sam, caught you guys in Tunica a while ago...good to see Byron on Woodsong...
f2 - Hi Sam, could you share your rig for amplifying HOSS with us?
SamBush - f2 - Barcus/Berry HotDot with a Countryman Isomax II microphone go to a stereo jack that goes to a Richard Battaglia stereo pre-amp and I use the pickup only in the monitor system, the house sound receives the mic and pu and on stage I also use a Trace Elliot TA-100R Amp
muddyford - Sam, any plans to do another educational video?
SamBush - muddyford - yes hopefully we'll make a new one for Homespun tapes
mike - Sam, How did you and David Grisman end up with consecutively numbered Gibson f-5's
TimM - SAM, Sam, sam....I have an old Muleskinner News magazine with NewGrass back in early 70's, Where you guys standing in pot field on the front cover..Ju
SamBush - TimM, TimM, TimM, I remember that photo taken by Jim McGuire, and it does look like a pot field, but it's not - we weren't the rebels everyone thought we were
Pam - still miss the acres, any chance bluegrass sessions coming to a town near us soon???
SamBush - Pam - Nothing scheduled at this time
ro - Great show in Atlanta last week, Sam. You really impressed my 16 year old son and that's hard to do!

joe - Your shows in Grinnell and Iowa City last year were great! Any upcoming shows for you in or near Iowa?
megafrank2 - Sam, Earlier you mentioned listening to Clapton. Have the two of you ever met??
SamBush - megafrank2 - No, but I've been a fan since '66 and would welcome the opportunity
holysnakes - we could use some bluegrass sessions ourselves here in fort collins, CO
praisehim - So you replaced the Chardstuff and Polytone, huh? How does this system compare
SamBush - praisehim - Actually, I should have called in the Chardstuff Acoustic Helper, made by Richard Battaglia And I still use the polytone on occasion
praisehim - Sam, where can you find the Chardstuff?
SamBush - praisehim - I'm not sure if they are still being made or not
praisehim I couldn't find them on the 'net so probably not. Any other recommendations?
SamBush - praisehim - check for an address on a Flecktones record to contact Richard
praisehim - Thanks Sam. What's Pat Flynn doing these days? Any chance for a full reunion?

ffsteve - what do you think about napster?and tape traders
SamBush - ffsteve - I've always been a tape trader myself and a fan of live show tapes, so I think that there's a lot of music to be learned through those tapes, but I have to wonder with Napster if songwriters are getting their due and just royalties
ffsteve - how about adding a downloading section to your website
TimM - Sam, how about allowing board tapes from now on. People who tape DO buy all of your CD's
