Gibson Custom debuts four new Designer Limited Runs
Gibson Custom now offers limited runs of our classic "Designer" guitars with new, once-in-a-lifetime features that take the originals a step further into the future.
These historic, hybrid guitars will be produced in extremely limited quantities and will be difficult to find in a dealer's showroom. To get your hands on one, ask your local Gibson Custom authorized dealer to order one now.
Split Headstock Explorer and Flying V
Custom's historic collection curator, Edwin Wilson, found an original middle '50s concept illustration of a prototype Explorer featuring a split head stock. The unique headstock was eventually used only on the 1957 Korina Futura. It was that original Ted McCarty era illustration that inspired Custom's contemporary luthiers to create the new Flying V Split Headstock and the Explorer Split Headstock

'59 Mahogany Flying V
The '59 Mahogany Flying V is built to the same exact specifications as the original 1959 Korina Flying V, but with a Mahogany body instead of Korina.
Historical features include the "V" shaped string-through-body plate, in-line knobs and the rubber strip on the bottom rim to be able to play sitting down. The Mahogany V features an updated look for a classic veteran.
Explorer Extra Cutoff
Finally, the Explorer Extra Cutoff has historic features and a new look for a new century. What would happen if you dropped your Explorer on stage and broke the bass side of the body off? If your tech was good enough, he would sand down the remainder of the body, and you would be left with the Explorer - Extra-Cutoff.
This mahogany body Explorer features a shortened bass bout, allowing more comfortable arm positioning. So, if you have always loved the look of the Explorer, but it just seemed a little too big, this guitar is for you.
