Gibson company and artists sweep bluegrass awards

Gibson and its bluegrass division, Original Acoustic Instruments (OAI), received a Distinguished Achievement Award from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) at the 12th Annual IBMA Awards held recently in Louisville, Kentucky.


"In recognition of pioneering
accomplishments that have fostered
bluegrass music's image and broadened
its recognition and accessibility."

Gibson's historic contributions to bluegrass were exemplified by the induction into the Hall of Honor of bluegrass and country music pioneers The Carter Family--A.P., Sara & Maybelle, as well as awards for contemporary artists and Gibson mandolin players Rhonda Vincent (entertainer and female vocalist of the year), Nickel Creek (instrumental group of the year), twenty something mandolin phenom Chris Thile, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver (vocal group of the year ). Gibson Signature artist and dobro master Jerry Douglas won an instrumental award.

Filmmakers the Coen Brothers and soundtrack producer T Bone Burnett (O Brother , Where Art Thou), Alice Gerrard, the late John Hartford, and Les Leverett also received Distinguished Achievement Awards.

The soundtrack from O Brother, Where Art Thou, along with Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, and Union Station member Dan Tyminski, shared the bulk of the honors. Among those who played on the soundtrack who play Gibsons are Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch and Buck White (The Whites).



On hand to celebrate and play were Gibson Signature artists Earl Scruggs, Sam Bush and Josh Graves.
