Gibson Custom Authentic: Hard, sweet magic
The new Gibson Custom Authentic guitars play hard, sweet magic. They recreate the look, feel and sound of a well-played original with vintage Gibson necks, the righteous sound of Burstbucker pickups, the timeless reaction of a hard maple top with a mahogany body and the look of an aged lacquer finish. Real guitars for real players.
They are hand-crafted by the Gibson Custom's master luthiers who are players themselves. They know a great instrument is a very personal possession. After years of play that enhance the individuality of the guitar , a vintage Les Paul becomes "broken in" and personal. To re-create the effect of time and use, Gibson Custom, Art & Historic offers three of its key vintage Reissue models in "working vintage" condition--the 1956 Goldtop, the 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue and the 1968 Les Paul Custom. Each is made to look, feel and sound like its been played for years.
The instruments' finish and hardware are "aged" in consultation with vintage restoration artist Tom Murphy to simulate a few decades worth of gigging, travel, weather and heartbreak. Each Custom Authentic guitar has its own unique, cosmetic qualities. They're designed to make you want to pick them up and play. Many of the Custom Shop's guitars are collectible and, as such, are collected rather than played. The Custom Authentic line is made to be a part of the owners' active musical lives.

Artist Authentic
While researching and creating the Custom Authentics, Gibson Custom was able to inspect, play and hear the Gibsons of several notable guitar players including Dickey Betts and Andy Summers. Those musicians and instruments played some of the world's most memorable music and inspired the first two Artist Authentic models-- the Dickey Betts Ultra Aged 1957 Goldtop and the Andy Summers 1960 ES-335. Both guitars have the same specifications of their owners' vintage instruments right down to the years of play and wear. Like the Custom Authentics, they are completed in the hands of Tom Murphy and feature a special set of collateral to commemorate their limited run.
