Rediscover Gold: Lee Roy Parnell resumes affair with 'Goldy'

When legendary songwriter and guitarist Lee Roy Parnell was fifteen-years-old, he bought "the guitar of his dreams," a a 1956 Les Paul Goldtop. "I traded motorcycle parts for it," recalls Lee Roy. "The guitar had been stored under this old mans bed for years in Fort Worth, Texas.

"I literally grew up with old 'Goldy. It took me from garage bands to the biggest stages all over the world. I had become very attached to that guitar" Over the years, Goldy took a pretty good beating. "Behind every nick, scrape, gouge and cigarette burn is a piece of my life and career," explains Lee Roy.

Over the years, the perils of touring became too risky for him to risk losing Goldy. "I don't know what Id do if anything ever happened to her. For her own good, I retired her to the studio."

On the road, it didnt take Lee Roy long to discover that he missed Goldy and her legendary Gibson tone. "I tried other guitars, but nothing could replace the tone and feel of Goldy."

That was until someone suggested he try an Historic Reissue Les Paul from the Gibson Custom Shop. Even though he was skeptical at first, Lee Roy discovered that the Les Paul Goldtop Reissue was just what he had been looking for.

"I had my doubts, but when I tried one, I was amazed to see how true to the original this guitar is," says Lee Roy. "The body was just the right weight and size, the neck was just right, and the sound was pure, vintage Gibson.

"Now I take Goldy II with me to every gig. It responds exactly the way I expect it to, performance after performance."
