Emmylou set to release new album of 'firsts', start Fall tour
When nine-time Grammy winner and Emmylou Harris releases Red Dirt Girl on Tuesday, Sept. 12, it will be an album of firsts for the self-professed "Gibson girl": It's her first studio LP since 1995's Wrecking Ball, it's her debut on the Nonesuch label, and it marks her full-fledged stab at songwriting on 11 of the album's 12 cuts. That night she also will appear on The David Letterman Show.
Emmylou is scheduled to open her North American outing with three nights at Joe's Pub in New York City on Sept. 18-20. She will return to New York to play a gig at the much larger Beacon Theater on Oct. 19. Then it's off to Europe for the month of November. Go here for a complete list of her Fall, 2000, itinerary. Emmylou has played Gibson acoustic guitars for most her storied career--most often a Gibson J-200.
