Mellencamp performs 'surprise' acoustic sets on 'vacation' tour
|
What did you do on your Summer vacation? Indiana singer/songwriter John Mellencamp is officially on vacation yet stops along the way to perform surprise, unadvertised outdoor acoustic concerts. The free, Good Samaritan tour performances are usually posted the same day on Mellencamp's web site.
Wednesday Mellencamp stopped at Nashville's War Memorial Plaza and performed forty-five minutes for a "surprised" crowd of 3,000 fans during the usually busy lunch hour. "This is not a rock concert," said Mellencamp from stage. "I got nothing to sell. I ain't promoting nothing. I'm just doing it for you guys." |

He played his '70s Gibson Dove accompanied by long-time co-producer/guitarist Mike Wanchic, a fiddle player, and accordionist. Mellencamp's Gibson Dove is the core of his band's "aggressive-acoustic-rock amalgam," Wanchic told gibson.com's Amplifier magazine. Go here, to read the complete, exclusive interview with Wanchic.
