Catch a sneak peek of Custom Shop Art of Guitar II, 'Homer' Les Paul on Yahoo! Auction
On Thursday, November 9, Gibson's
Custom, Art & Historic Division, New York City's Animazing Gallery, and Yahoo! Auctions present a collection of one-of-a-kind guitars as artist's canvas by an eclectic mix of important visual and music artists.
"The guitar has grown to be much more than just something to make music with, it has become a lifestyle symbol that is recognized universally around the world. With Gibsons rich history and classic designs, we could hardly think of a better medium to offer as a springboard for artistic inspiration." says Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Musical Instruments and host of the opening night event.
The Art Of The Guitar II will feature 25 Gibson guitars, each hand-painted by the artist and available for purchase. Artists contributing designs include Leroy Neiman (seen at right), "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening, legendary rock bassist John Entwhistle, Ralph Bakshi (Lord of the Rings), celebrated poster artist Derek Hess, Carol Paulson, Alison Lefcort, and official Grammy Awards artist Rick Garcia. Guitars in the collection range from Gibsons classic Les Paul, to the carved top E-5 Switchmaster and the solid-body SG, and range from $4,500 to $100,000 dollars.
Make sure and check out today the first ever-global charity auction on Yahoo!Auction of a one-of-a-kind Matt Groening-inked "Homer" Les Paul. Proceeds of this auction will benefit the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Foundation.
Groening's wicked sense of humor in the form of Homer Simpson is hand-inked on a Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar. Some lucky bidder will own this unique guitar and help Nordoff-Robbins continue their important work bringing healing music into the lives of disabled children and adults.
If you look closely at the finish, you can see remnants of Groening's work --- right down to the smudges and fingerprints in the ink. From his early days, when he first created the "Life is Hell" bunnies, to his current cast of Simpsons characters, Groening works in simple black outlines. The guitar comes certified as a one-of-a-kind, with a certificate bearing his original signature.
