Gibson Showcase to host Jerry Lewis MDA telethon

A Nashville, TN, icon, Gibson Musical Instruments, is joining forces with another well-known organization - the Muscular Dystrophy Association(MDA) - to sponsor the local MDA Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. The Telethon airs Sunday, September 3rd beginning at 9:35 pm through Monday, September 4th ending at 5:30 pm. The show will be aired live from Gibson Bluegrass Showcase at Opry Mills on WZTV, FOX 17.

In support of the Telethon, MDA and Gibson Bluegrass Showcase sponsored the annual Telethon Executive Lock-Up before the show on August 29th and 30th. Last year nearly 70 jailbirds raised over $43,000 for MDA by going "behind bars for good." Prominent Nashvillians are being accused of "having a big heart for Jerrys kids." Theyre volunteering to be "arrested and serve time" in a mock jail at the Gibson Showcase at Opry Mills.

The MDA Lock-Up, held from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm was hosted by Todd Wright, General Manager of Gibson Bluegrass Showcase. Each participant was sentenced to "raise bail" by calling friends and encouraging contributions to advance MDAs lifesaving programs. More than 100 area executives and civic leaders were expected to serve their sentences "behind bars" for MDA.

MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat neuromuscular diseases through worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. In addition to funding ground-breaking research, MDA maintains some 230 clinics nationwide, including the MDA Clinic at Nashville's Vanderbilt Medical Center, local support groups, and a summer camp in Gainsboro, TN, for kids with muscle diseases. MDA is the first nonprofit recognized by the American Medical Association with a Lifetime Achievement Award "for significant and lasting contributions to the health and welfare of humanity."

All donations made to the Telethon or the Telethon Executive Lock-Up benefit people living with neuromuscular disease in Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. Anyone interested in planning or participating in a Lock-Up, or the Telethon, can contact the local MDA office at (615) 777-6644.
