Buck swings with Epiphone

Guitarist Josh Wheeler gets a kick out of the outrageous connotations people attach to his band's name, Buck.

He insists they have no strange fascination with deer, dollar bills or large teeth. Buck's story began two years ago in Detroit, MI, when seven high-school friends decided to put together a Contemporary Christian ska/swing group and started touring the Midwest. It didn't take long before Buck's reputation as a high energy, polished act made it's way to A&R representative Dan Michaels at Tattoo Records. Michaels flew up from Nashville to see the band play in a giant airplane hangar nearly 100 miles outside Detroit in the middle of nowhere, as Michaels put it, where hundreds of local fans had driven out to see them. The result was a signed recording contract with Tattoo.

Fueled by Wheelers guitar playing and a four piece horn section, Buck's self-titled ten-song project features high-energy tunes and covers a wide range of styles from third-wave ska to roaring 20's swing and all that's in between. Wheelers choice of guitar to cover all these styles? Of course it's Epiphone. His current collection includes a SuperNova, ES295, and a Les Paul Standard in Translucent Blue.
