Spring Break '99 Bandemonium rocked Panama City,
FL, beaches this week. After months of searching for the best
unsigned bands in the country, Sam Goody, Pepsi, Gibson USA,
and L'Oreal have selected Darwin's Waiting Room (DWR) from Miami.
This "Funkasonic" quintet mixes sexually and politically provocative lyrics
with amazing technical skill and larger-than-life stage presence.
DWR's sound--jazz or fusion, or funk or punk, or rap or Rhythm with intricate
grooves with an original mix.
Thursday DWR opened for folk-rocker Shawn Mullins and rising
new rockers, The Flys.
The Fly's
feature guitarist Peter Perdichizzi's who's stellar riffs and heavy tone are made
possible with a little help from his arsenal of Gibson USA SGs and Les Pauls.
Instead beach blanket bingo Gibson sponsored an air guitar contest among members
of the concert audiences. The winners of Gibson SGs: Ryan Miller from Bowling Green, KY,
and Robyn Kukowsil, Platteville, WI.
Other Gibson USA events included:
- Gibson USA held random guitar trivia contests from our booth and from the Musicland stage for chances to win lots of cool, free stuff.
- Gibson's SG booth to test drive the legendary SG guitar and sign up for the daily guitar shootout for a chance to win a Gibson/Sam Goody SG.
- Gibson USA's artist clinician, Chuck Yamek demonstrating his skills and the power of a Gibson with a variety of SG's.
- Sam Goody/Musicland interactive listening stations set up on the beach featuring the music of modern rock bands known for their SG tones (Stabbing Westward, Foo Fighters, Sister Hazel, Monster Magnet, etc.)
