The press is giving Vision DSP high marks as a major contender for
Macintosh sequencing (you don't have to just rely on OUR opinion!). Here is a
selection of quotes from Pro Audio Review, Keyboard, EQ, Home Recording
and in the UK The MIX, MacWorld, Sound on Sound, and Home Studio France.
After you read the quotes, you can see Vision DSP for yourself and

EQ Magazine (December 98): Roger Nichols' wish-list for Christmas
"Item Number 8: Opcode Vision DSP The thin line between MIDI sequencing
software and audio-based recording with DSP plug-ins has vanished. The
sequencing software of choice for the Steely Dan guys."
MACWORLD Magazine (January 99) (UK) Mike Collins says:
"Vision DSP is much easier to use than Cubase VST or Logic Audio --with
a neater user interface, clearly laid out menus and extremely attractive
price."
"Vision DSP lets you record original music or remix songs using
perhaps the best graphical editor of any MIDI sequencer--along with the
new Pulse Edit drum window. The audio features such as Time Streach,
Pitch Shift and Adjust Audio Tempo are incredibly powerful."
The MIX Magazine (February 99) (UK) Ian Waugh says:
"All together Vision DSP packs a powerful punch. In short, it's a
sequenncer you must see and try. Vision DSP has a lot going for it. From
the new 3D look to the flexibility of the audio routing system and
support for VST plug-ins, they all come together to for a very powerful
program."
"The new MIDI features are both fun and useful. It'll take you up
to a 24-bit system if you're looking at high quality audio--all at a
very affordable price"
SOUND ON SOUND Magazine (January 99) Bob Dormon says:
"Vision DSP comes
24-bit ready with additional software bundles and a battery of features
that may well charm the most ardent European software fan to try some
American pie."
"The built-in EQ in Vision DSP is also one of its most impressive
features, with four separate bands that can be individually activated
and set for parametric or shelving characteristics."
"While Opcode have sensibly jumped on the bandwagon and accepted ASIO
and VST...Vision DSP is far from being a copycat program. It's the
cheapest 24-bit audio/MIDI sequencer on the market too. Tempted? You
should be."
PRO AUDIO REVIEW AWARDS VISON DSP A 1998 EXCELLENCE AWARD AT AES
After roaming the floors of AES 1998, and seeing thousands of new
products, Pro Audio Review chose Vision DSP as one of the 22 products
deserving a 1998 Excellence Award. This is the final verdict from the
Judges.
"It does MIDI, it does mixing; it does DSP; it does editing, it does
multimedia, it does music creation...it's a Swiss Army knife of digital
audio software!"
KEYBOARD Magazine (February 99) Jim Aikin (the toughest reviewer in America today!) says:
"The Bottom Line: Another great sequencer/recorder...a very repectable
contender. Vision has been around for a long time, and has many
strengths as a sequencing package. With Vision DSP you get all of the
MIDI features and virtually all of the audio power of Studio Vision, and
for a lot less money."
"Vision DSP is also the first sequencer in its price range to move up to
24-bit. Even if your audio interface is only 16-bit, 24-bit support is
good news. You can mix down to a stereo 24-bit master entirely in the
digital domain, which means the 16-bit signals don't have to be
attenuated prior to mixing."
"As a MIDI sequencer, Vision DSP is a mature product. You'll find just
about all the features you'd expect in a high-end sequencer.... If
you're new to MIDI sequencing this stuff will amaze you."
"Real-time plug-ins are whateverybody craves, it seems. Right out of the
box, VDSP gives you a good set of plug-in tools. There's a very
respectable reverb...One of the cooler effects for dance mix wizards is
opRezn8, which applies the equivilent of a resonant filter being swept
by an LFO."
"Audio Tracks: Recording is a piece of cake. If an audio instrument is
defined as stereo, you'll get a stereo waveform--no need to manually
keep track of the left and right halves yourself."
"Off-line DSP: I tried time-streching a four-bar stereo acoustic drum
loop, I was surprised at how good the results sounded. The Formant-based
pitch shifting allowed me to shift vocal tracks up or down by a whole
step with excellent-sounding results: It was palpably the same vocalist
singing in a new key, not Alvin and the Chipmonks."
"VDSP is loaded with convenience features, from zoom buttons to
user-programmable key command and MIDI key equivilents. (Command Keys
have) been overhauled, and longtime Vision users will find it much more
friendly than before."
VISION DSP GETS HIGH MARKS IN EQ MAGAZINE
You can read a full review of Vision DSP in the November 98 issue of EQ. We
took the liberty of picking up a few quotes on the new audio engine, the
plug-ins, mix automation, and, of course, the final judgement.
"Real-time audio effects processing is undoubtedly one of Vision DSP's
key strenghts. The program is the first to feature Opcode's new
studio-quality parametric EQ, and its sonic performance is every bit the
equal of, if not superior to, many professional studio units I've
heard."
"Vision DSP includes a wealth of audio processors - all of which sounded
pretty damn good to me."
"Vision DSP let's you perform offline edits so that you can meticulously
fine-tune fader moves that couldn't be possibly achieved in real time.
And, by the way, it looks real cool!"
"On top of everything else, Vision DSP offers extensive support for
Apple's QuickTime multimedia audio/video format. ...This type of
capability makes the program ideal for composers who score to picture or
for multimedia games"
"Combined with a wealth of features, real-time everything and good
documentation, Opcode's Vision DSP is an extremely capable program that
deserves your attention"
HOME RECORDING PLACES VISION DSP AT THE TOP OF THE HEAP
Home Recording, the new Cherry Lane magazine reviews Vision DSP in their
upcoming Winter 1999 issue.
"Opcode's latest incarnations, Vision DSP and Studio Vision Pro 4.1 are
in many ways evolutionary - users weaned on Opcode's previous products
should find them comfortably familiar - but offer many new and enhanced
features that add to a composer's arsenal while streamlining the entire
musical process."
"Vision DSP's bussing system works like a big, user configurable mixing
consoles, and offers DSP users much of the power formerly reserved to
for TDM users."
"(Opcode has) taken a proven professional-level product and made it even
more powerful and faster to use than before. The comprehensive set of
user definable commands, a slick interface, extensive remote control and
a deep integration between audio and MIDI - all at a breakthrough price
- make Vision DSP a solid contender for the top spot in the pro audio
sequencer sweepstakes."
IN FRANCE THE PRESS IS RECOMENDING VISION DSP TOO
In the January 99 issue of Home Studio magazine in France noticed Vision
DSP. After testing the program, this is what David Korn had to say to Opcode.
"Overall...Vision DSP is...the best bang for the buck on the market -
this is the bottom line."
