Opcode sets radical new price for pro music software

Opcode is now offering a radical new pricing strategy for Vision DSP and Studio Vision Pro. Hard disk recording has become cheaper, RAM is cheaper, audio cards are cheaper. Now, finally, the software is affordable too. These are the full-blown applications.

Effective June 1, 1999, Opcode's award-winning professional Macintosh music sequencing software will have suggested retail prices lowered by 60% for Vision DSP (now $199.95) and Studio Vision Pro (now $399.95). In addition, a $59.95 version of Vision DSP is also available to U.S. customers as a software download directly from Opcode's web site.

"We're leveraging the new trends in the cost of computers and peripherals such as digital audio hardware, hard disks and CD burners," stated Tom Sherman, VP of Development at Opcode, a division of Gibson Musical Instruments. "The new lower price points will allow everyone to have access to top quality, full-featured music software. These are not junior versions. This puts the street price of Vision DSP well under the $200 price point, a very attractive purchase for such a top rated program."

The $59.95 web download version of Vision DSP is a full version of the software application including OMS and software PDF file manuals. The product is sold without telephone technical support and without the extras that come with the boxed, in-store version such as the Bias Peak SE sample editing software. An online area is being developed to help support the first-time user, which includes a primer on set up and basic terminology. "We feel there's a growing opportunity in the high volume 'shareware-like' software area," continued Sherman. "The Internet is exploding with new concepts of software distribution and support. We see this as an inflection point for the entire industry and we're proud to be aggressively embracing these changes."

Vision DSP is a Macintosh audio and MIDI sequencer for composing, arranging and recording music. It is compatible with real-time audio plug-ins and ASIO audio hardware, and Opcode's new MIDIport 32 USB MIDI interface. Studio Vision Pro adds compatibility for the powerful Digidesign Pro Tools TDM hardware system and also includes Opcode's patented Audio-to-MIDI and MIDI-to-Audio capability.
