On January 30, 1969, the Beatles gave their last public performance from the rooftop of the Apple Corp. office building in London, England. The unannounced and impromptu live appearance was cut short when the police pulled the plug on the performance. Well if you were in downtown Nashville last Saturday night, you may have flashbacked 30 years to that event.
The world renown and critically acclaimed Beatles Tribute band, "American English" appeared on the rooftop of the Hard Rock Caf. The show was co-sponsored by Epiphone Guitars and Gibson's Strings and Accessories Division. "John Lennon" and "George Harison" were playing the newly released Epiphone John Lennon Signature Casino.
A sizable crowd formed quickly as classic Beatles tunes echoed through the downtown streets. American English performed many well-known Beatles hits from the "Ed Sullivan" period right up to and including the "Sgt. Pepper" and "Abbey Road" days.
The crowd packed the parking lot of the Hard Rock Cafe, lined both sides of Broadway, and began spilling into the streets. Several Metro Police officers attempted to clear the street, and when they were unsuccessful, backup was called in.
A dozen police cars and paddy wagons streamed in from each side of the crowd, with lights on and sirens blaring. The cops forced everybody to cram onto the sidewalk, and threatened to shut down the show.
The "Beatles" continued to perform songs from their "Magical Mystery Tour" when the cops finally stormed the stage and pulled the plug on the show.
The show was a "Complete Beatles Experience!"
