Dale Earnhardt still 'The Intimidator'
by David Schenk

Dale Earnhardt proved this weekend that he is not done winning races. With victories in Saturday's IROC race and Sunday's Winston Cup race, Earnhardt showed his old tricks and beat the best drivers in the world.

Gibson's Custom Shop, Sam Bass, and Dale Earnhardt have teamed up to create the Limited Edition Dale Earnhardt Les Paul, but more on that later. Now back to the racing.

After winning the first International Race of Champions (IROC) race with a last lap pass of Mark Martin in Daytona, Dale started the Talladega race in the rear of the 12 car field. He quickly moved up through the pack which consisted of the stars of the Winston Cup, Busch Grand National, Cart FedEx, and IRL series.

Earnhardt did not lead until the last lap, when he faked a pass to the low side of Rusty Wallace, then dove high up to the wall to squeeze by and take the win by a 0.075 second margin.

Earnhardt continued his dominance in Sunday's Die Hard 500. He led 70 of the 188 laps and was able to avoid the multi-car pile-up to win the race.

In the closing laps, Earnhardt was content running in second, until the lead pack began battling for positions. Suddenly, Earnhardt found himself in the lead, and never looked back. He crossed the finish line just ahead of Dale Jarrett and Mark Martin for his 72nd career Winston Cup victory. The win was the first for his crew chief Kevin Hamlin who joined the team midway through last season.

The win moved Dale into a tie with his teammate Mike Skinner for 9th in points, and gave the team a confidence boost that they will take to this week's event in California.

Gibson's Custom Shop
