'I can play as good as any man': Sue Foley |
|
"I can play as good as any man and I ain't no rhythm player," says Austin, Texas, guitar ingenue Sue Foley (pictured here with an Epiphone archtop Sorrento). Whether caressing a slow blues or stomping through a roots rocker, the twenty-nine year old Foley always backs it up. Then there's the voice. Sultry and persuasive. Simply an extension of her guitar. Foley ranks as the heiress to Bonnie Raitt as a blues-infused guitarist, singer, and artist. She saw blues great James Cotton in concert when she was 15 years old. Cotton inspired Foley to pick up the electric guitar. After playing with numerous bands in her native Canada, Foley moved to Austin in 1992 and built a buzz with her wicked guitar solos and evocative singing. Her most recent release is Ten Days In November (Shanachie Records). Foley will perform Sunday, July 26, at the Gibson Guitar Festival-Newport.
