Installed in the school is a digital recording studio, theater and fully-outfitted music room, complete with top-of-the-line sound equipment. The salary of a full-time instructor is also funded by the program.

Program organizer Aubrey Preston hopes that Kids On Stage will provide a model for schools nationwide.

"When I was a kid, I played in a band, but we didn't have a decent place to practice, a P.A. or anyone to teach us how to perform," Preston said. "With a program like Kids On Stage, young and talented individuals can learn to do it right."
