| Squirrel Nut Zippers Swing With Bevy Of Epiphones | ||
|
Last Saturday, The Squirrel Nut Zippers' showed the thousands in attendance at Nashville's Italian Street Fair how to swing... and how to coax that hepcat tone from their Epiphones. The band features a skewed take on the jazz and swing music of the 1920's through 1940's. Coupled with clever songwriting (in particular the band's breakthrough single "Hell") the Zippers clearly separate themselves from mere retreads who fill their set with "standards." As witnessed by the frenzied crowd at the Italian Street Fair, which took place at Nashville's Centennial Park, the band knows how to put on a show too. The crowd was rewarded for their enthusiasm with an extended encore. Aside from the upright bassist and drummer, everyone in the band served multiple duties, taking turns on vocals, horns, percussion and banjo. Three members also played guitar... and every guitar played was an Epiphone. Axes that made appearances on this particular night were an Epiphone Regent, Howard Roberts, Sorrento and Casino.
