Jamie Blake "Rocks Hard" With Gibson |
|
Jamie Blake, who recently joined A&M's impressive ranks (which includes Sheryl Crow, Johny Lang and Del Amitri), plays Nashville's Hard Rock Cafe tonight as part of 25-date tour of America's Hard Rocks. The the 22-year-old singer/songwriter/Gibson ES-335 wielding rhythm guitarist is touring in support of her debut release Jamie Blake, Gibson.Net caught up with Blake at soundcheck, as well as drummer Jeff Chomin, bassist Drew Santarsiero and guitarist Andrew Solin. Solin is a 28-year old veteran of the "indie" rock scene and a Gibson devotee. Cutting his teeth on legendary Gibson players such as Page and Young while honing his skills touring with bands such as Fake Brain and Nogood Boyo, Solin's eclectic style fit perfectly with Blake's songcraft. "Jamie and my sister were roomates," explained Solin. "I jammed with Jamie a couple of times while visiting my sister and our styles matched up pretty well. Then she came to see me play with my band once and it solidified the fact that she wanted me as her guitarist." While the live band has only been together a few months, Solin, who was visibly very excited about tonight's gig, couldn't deny the chemistry. "This is the most fun I've ever had on tour," he said. For the tour, Solin is mainly relying on a 40th anniversary Les Paul, complete with P-90 pickups, but his main squeeze is a '64 SG Jr. According to Solin, the Gibsons are all he plays. "All my favorite players play Gibson," he said. "I only play Gibsons, I have no other guitar." Unlike his aforementioned heroes, however, Solin prefers to rock on P-90-equipped guitars. "I like the definition, but also the ballsy tone." Stay tuned to Gibson.Net for a review of the gig.
