Chet Atkins, who pioneered the use of the original Echoplex in the
Nashville studio scene of the '50's and '60's, took possession of an
Oberheim Echoplex Digital Pro today. Chet now has 50 seconds of editable
sampling
and looping time at his disposal, which will allow him to continue earning
his well-deserved nickname of "Mr. Guitar!"
"I had just finished listening to Chet's 1959 RCA album
Teensville when
Artist Relations Representative Don Pitts escorted Chet's right hand man
and fabulous
guitar picker Paul Yandell into the Oberheim offices," Oberheim
Product Manager Tom Spaulding said. "There are some great examples of early
effects on that album, including Chet's version of a 'wah-wah.' Chet had an
RCA
engineer wire up a volume pedal with a tone pot, and used it on several
cuts. There are also some great echo sounds and, of course, Chet's usual
perfect tone," Spaulding continued.
By combining tradition with modern technology, Oberheim's Echoplex Digital
Pro also delivers great echoes and perfect tones.
The new 5.0 software version Echoplexes should be shipping within the next
60 days, according to Spaulding. Ask your local Oberheim Dealer to hold one
for you to sample.
