Wide Mouth Mason grooves on GMI products |
|
They may look young, but Atlantic recording artists Wide Mouth Mason groove like old pros, and they're doing it on GMI instruments. Two days ago, the band got held up in Toronto and had to make a grueling non-stop drive to Nashville to make their debut gig at the Gibson Cafe in downtown Music City. Despite being weary from travel, the trio had no trouble finding a pocket... and a deep pocket at that. Drummer Safwan Javed took to the house Slingerland kit as if he had been playing it his whole life. Bassist/background vocalist Earl Pereira tore up on a Tobias bass and an Epiphone El Capitan. Lead vocalist/guitarist Shaun Verreault expertly wielded a variety of Gibsons on stage, but favored an ES-336 for this evening. Wide Mouth Mason's music can roughly be described as The Dave Matthews Band meets the Spin Doctors, but with the unique textures created by Verreault and Pereira's vocal harmonies, the band takes on a sound all its own. The fact that all three members can really play is icing on the cake. Wide Mouth Mason will return to Nashville in a week or two, so stay tuned to future issues of The Amplifier for an interview.
