Gibson Musical Instruments Harris, Randall Share Holiday Spirit, Woody Makes It A Double

Gibson Musical Instruments was unusually graced with celebrity presence today.

Around lunch time, country music superstar Emmylou Harris stopped by, along with her daughter, her manager and former Nash Rambler/now solo artist John Randall.

The group met with Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz to take delivery of a blue Gibson EC-10 acoustic. The guitar will be a Christmas gift from Gibson and Harris for the family of Roy Huskey Jr. The legendary bassist passed away earlier this year.

Juszkiewicz also presented Harris with (what else), but a brand new Fishman Matrix-equipped J-200 acoustic. What makes this guitar different from her current stable of Gibsons is that it is constructed entirely out of "Smartwood" (wood sanctioned by the Rainforest Alliance).

"So is this going to make me smart?" Harris joked, though she was genuinely psyched about the instrument, especially after receiving John Randall's enthusiastic approval as he whipped off some chicken-pickin' licks. "This is a beautiful guitar."

Equally psyched was former Gibson employee, former Allman Brothers Band Member, current Gov't Mule bassist Allen Woody. Woody stopped by the Custom*Art*Historic Division to pick up a custom built "EB-0 Mando." The Heritage Cherry doubleneck sports a flame top and simple volume controls which allow the player to easily alternate a short-scale electric bass tone with a P-90-powered electric mandolin.

"I switch between bass and mandolin at least four times every show, so this is a really functional instrument for me," Woody said. "This is going right on the road."

Woody was instructed not to beat up the one-of-a-kind doubleneck too much, because he's supposed to loan it back to Gibson to briefly display at Winter NAMM in Los Angeles. We'll see how he does...
