| Gibson Pro Shop "ER" Mends Broken Axes Of Stars | ||
|
Every now and then, the rigors of the road put some players' favorite guitars on the disabled list. Gibson Custom, Art, Historic's Pro Shop has earned the reputation as the place to get them back to fighting form. In the shop as of today is Al Di Meola's well-worn 1969 Les Paul Deluxe. The former gold top received a fresh coat of purple paint, some much needed new frets and a pair of '57 Classic humbuckers to replace the DiMarzios which at one point replaced the original set of mini humbuckers. Jazz guitar legend in waiting Mark Whitfield's custom L-5 was severely damaged while on tour in France. A fresh coat of finish awaits this fallen beauty as well. Perhaps the saddest story is a Les Paul Custom belonging to current Def Leppard (former Dio and Whitesnake) axman Vivian Campbell. An overzeallous airline employee did a number on the body, smashing in the tone and volume pots while breaking the body into three parts. Miraculously the neck remained intact and will receive a new body before hitting the tour circuit again. |
