Gibson Musical Instruments
Elvis sighting and other GMI appearances on the CMA awards

Elvis did show up at the Country Music Association's annual awards show last night, as promised (see below), on Marty Roe's Epiphone guitar.

Also as promised, Kix Brooks--make that Entertainer of the Year Kix Brooks (with partner Ronnie Dunn)--sported a Gibson J-200 in Brooks & Dunn's performance of "My Maria."

And Vince Gill picked a J-60 with Allison Krauss and Union Station, singing "High Lonesome Sound." Jerry Douglas, sitting in with the band, took a Dobro solo on (what else but?) the Jerry Douglas signature model.

As an extra added GMI attraction, Marty Stuart and his Gibson F-5L mandolin were spotlighted for tasteful solo accompaniment to Pam Tillis' performance.

GMI congratulates all the CMA winners and nominees.

Keep an eye out for Elvis tonight on the Country Music Association's awards show. He won't really be there in person-just on the pickguard of the Epiphone ELVIS EJ200 played by Marty Roe of Diamond Rio.

And watch for the Gibson Chevy Truck. No, not a four-wheeler, not even a six-wheeler, but a six-stringer. Gibson Montana has created the Chevy Truck J-200, and there'll be one on display at an after-awards party in the Opryland Hotel sponsored by Chevy Trucks. This limited edition collectible (available through Chevy Truck dealers) features the Chevy Bow Tie emblem inlaid in pearl on the peghead and fingerboard. Even the bridge is carved in the shape of the Chevy Bow Tie.

Also keep an eye out for these GMI friends:

  • Gibson/Epi endorser Wynonna, who's slated to sing a duet with pop star Michael Bolton.
  • Multi-award winner and hot picker Vince Gill has been seen lately on Letterman with an ES-336 from the Custom*Art*Historic division but will more than likely tonight be playing a Gibson Montana J-60.
  • Kix Brooks, who seldom leaves home without a Gibson Les Paul, will be outfitted in a J-200 tonight, and Brooks & Dunn bassist Danny Milliner will be picking a Tobias.
  • Bruce Rutherford will be keeping time for Alan Jackson on a set of Slingerland drums.
  • The entire family of Gibson Musical Instruments salutes all the fine CMA award nominees, and Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz has sent a personal letter of congratulations to each nominee.
