Gibson Musical Instruments
World of Bluegrass '96

Bluegrass music was created on Gibson instruments in 1939, and some of the world's greatest musicians will show why Gibsons are still the best for bluegrass at World of Bluegrass '96, September 23-29 in Owensboro, KY.

Drop by the Gibson booth, where Gibson Musical Instruments' Richie Owens will show off the latest and greatest Gibson banjos, Gibson and Flatiron mandolins, DOBRO resonator guitars and basses, Gibson Montana flat top guitars, Epiphone instruments and Steinberger basses.

World of Bluegrass '96 is a weeklong series of seminars, showcases and exhibits, including the Bluegrass Music Awards. The event begins Monday, Sept. 23 and ends with a three-day weekend Fan Fest in scenic English Park on the banks of the Ohio River. Fan Fest is expected to draw 10,000 fans.

GMI artists will be everywhere -- onstage as well as in the Gibson booth signing autographs.

Earl Scruggs, whose four Gibson models top the Gibson banjo line, is scheduled to appear.

DOBRO greats Jerry Douglas and Uncle Josh Graves will be showing off their signature models. David Nance (with Jimmy Martin) and Gene Wooten (with the Osborne Brothers) will be picking on Dobro's Model 27 Deluxe.

Sam Bush will be rocking on his Gibson F-5 while he's waiting for his signature model to be finished.

For the big picture -- the all-GMI band experience -- check out J.D. Crowe and the New South.

J.D. will be playing his vintage Gibson RB-3.

Phil Leadbetter will be sliding along on his DOBRO Model 27 Deluxe.

Dwight McCall's fingers will be flying on a Gibson mandolin. (The band photo shows Dwight's predecessor in the New South, Darryl Webb with a Flatiron F-5 Artist).

Greg Luck might be spotted with a J-45 or Advanced Jumbo guitar from Gibson Montana.

And Curt Chapman will be sure to have the right bass for the right song, picking between his DOBRO Model F bass with the traditional resonator sound, his Epiphone El Capitan acoustic/electric cutaway, or his Steinberger solidbody.

Chris Thile will be there with a custom Gibson F-5 mandolin.

John Cowan's bass of choice for bluegrass is a DOBRO Model D bass but he's also been seen with a purple Steinberger.

Peter Rowan will be picking up is brand new DOBRO Troubadour acoustic guitar.

If you can't witness the Fan Fest or the showcases in person, you can still hear the sounds of the GMI family of instruments on the awards show on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 9 pm CDT. The show will be broadcast on radio in 275 US markets and 14 foreign markets to estimated worldwide audience of 30 million.
