"Attention to the smallest details is how you build value into a guitar. You can hear the difference. You can feel it, too. Sometimes, it doesn't even take that much more time to get it exactly right. Another thirty minutes or an hour at a certain point, and it's a much more playable guitar."
Attention to details by the manufacturer makes the instrument more playable as it comes from the factory. Small details such as cutting the nut are of great consequence. The nut at the top of the neck supports the strings over the neck. If string notches in the nut are cut too deep, the strings will not have good sustain. If they are cut too shallow, the strings can pop out when you play.
At Gibson, cutting the nut is another handcraft. First, we string the guitar and tune it. When the nut is cut, the strings are already under tension. This process is more time consuming, but it's the only way to get it right.
