The Gibson J-200 |
| Jumbo Series |
The J-200 made a splashing debut in 1937 as the Super Jumbo; the biggest and fanciest flat top guitar Gibson had ever made. It was so "over the top" that it was catalogued as a custom model, individually made to the customer's personal tastes. Cowboy singing star Ray Whitley Brought his to Hollywood, and Gene Autrey, Tex Ritter, and Ray Corrigan each had to have one of his own.
In the years following World War II, the J-200's huge crisp, cutting edge sound attracted the "Who's Who" in the music world, including Bob Dylan and Elvis. Today the J-200 is an American icon, and is known worldwide as the "King of the Flat-Tops."
Artists who have played the J-200 include John Sebastian, Clint Black, Emmylou Harris, Motley Crue, The Eagles, Vince Gill, Jimmy Page, Soul Asylum, and literally countless others.
