The Gibson J-45 |
| Classic Series |
The J-45 debuted in 1942 with a peg head banner that announced to guitarists around the world, "Only a Gibson is Good Enough." This model represented the perfection of what has come to be known as the Gibson "round shouldered" or "slope-shouldered" design, with a sturdy mahogany body and scalloped top braces.
The J-45 was one of only six models made by Gibson during World War II, but after the war, no matter how many fancier models were added to the dreadnought line, the J-45 remained the most popular. It offered amateur players high end quality at an affordable price, and its warm, even tone made it the workhorse guitar of professional musicians. The classic vintage sunburst finish of 1942 - the only finish offered on a Gibson during the war - is faithfully reproduced on the J-45 VS, along with the classic J-45 sound.
Artists who have played Gibson slope-shouldered acoustics include Jorma Kaukonen and Stevie Nicks.
