Birds of Paradise The Limited Edition 50th Anniversary
1960 Hummingbirds
50th Anniversary 1960 Hummingbird
Introduced in 1960 to immediate raves from country, folk, blues and rock’n’roll players alike, the Gibson Hummingbird has remained an iconic acoustic for five decades. This big-bodied, square-shouldered dreadnought has been the choice of countless major artists over the years, and has been on the Top 5 Sellers list every year since Gibson launched its acclaimed Montana Division in 1989. To celebrate this legendary guitar’s 50th anniversary in style, Gibson is releasing three Limited Edition 50th Anniversary Hummingbirds for the end of 2010, and all are certain to be instant collector’s items.

The first of these is the 50th Anniversary 1960 Hummingbird. Built to the period-correct specs of Gibson’s Montana Division’s True Vintage series, it features a gorgeous Dark Heritage Cherry 1960 sunburst finish, vintage body back bracings, gold keystone Kluson tuning machines, a custom mother-of-pearl “50” inlay on the headstock, a gold painted 50th Anniversary pickguard, gloss finish and a “50th Anniversary” engraved truss-rod cover. Limited to 200 guitars worldwide, it makes a fine way to join in the celebration.

For the high-end collector looking for something even more exclusive, Gibson is also offering two Custom Shop Limited Edition Hummingbird 50th Anniversary Models in production runs of only 50 guitars each. The 50th Anniversary Hummingbird Custom Exotic Rosewood model is made with back and sides of highly figured exotic virgin rosewood hand selected by our master luthiers, with hide glued top bracing and a precious 18k gold headstock inlay, while the 50th Anniversary Hummingbird Custom “AAA” Koa model has back and sides made from figured Hawaiian Koa wood with a special honeyburst finish to blend with KOA, hide glued top bracing, and its 18k gold headstock inlay that makes these customs the most valuable Hummingbirds of all time

Of course, being Gibsons, in addition to being rare opportunities for the collector these Hummingbirds are also superb instruments for the performing musician, with all the rich tone and unparalleled playability that guitarists have come to expect from the luthiers of Bozeman, Montana. Every guitar comes protected by a Gibson Custom hardshell case with plush burgundy lining, and includes a Certificate of Authentication.

In addition, every 50th Anniversary 1960 Hummingbird is also covered by Gibson’s Gold Warranty. They will go fast, so reserve yours now at your authorized Gibson dealer, before the bird has flown.
