U2 are now streaming a lyric video for “You’re the Best Thing About Me”, the lead single from their forthcoming album, Songs of Experience. The album will be released in full on December 1, 2017.

“You're the Best Thing About Me” is the official lead single from the group’s 14th studio album, although it’s the third tune previewed from the package: U2 played “The Little Things That Give You Away” on ABC-TV's Jimmy Kimmel Live back in May, and they issued a live performance video last week for “The Blackout”, a much darker song than the others, with The Edge back on his Gibson Les Paul. Earlier this year, The Edge picked up the 2017 Les Paul Spirit Award.

You can view the live video for “The Blackout” on U2’s Facebook. The cover of “You’re the Best Thing About Me” features an image by Anton Corbijn of The Edge’s daughter Sian Evans.

Songs of Experience is the companion release to 2014’s Songs of Innocence; the two titles draw inspiration from a collection of poems, Songs of Innocence and Experience, by the 18th century English mystic and poet William Blake. The album includes contributions from Royal Blood, One Republic’s Ryan Tedder, Jacknife Lee, and long-standing producer Steve Lillywhite.

Bono says he rewrote many of his lyrics in response to recent elections in both Europe and the USA, even though the album was previously “completed” in 2016. “We needed some distance from it,” Bono has told the New York Times. “The world had changed. We needed to put things on pause to take in the scale of the change.”

However, The Edge has told the New York Times that the criterion for this album is simple: “On this record, we went, ‘Is it going to be played by people in a bar in 25 years?’”
