It’s always heartening to hear of acts of charity by the world’s most financially successful musicians. It’s a way of reaffirming our faith in the artists that inspire and entertain us. Earlier in the week, news surfaced of pop star George Michael’s many charitable (and anonymous) efforts during his lifetime. Around the same time, it was revealed that Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder donated $10,000 to a Maryland family after a post on social media went viral. At the time, the family were facing eviction from their home and were struggling to even put together money for Christmas gifts. Eddie Vedder to the rescue, then.

Now, Vedder, along with the rest of his Pearl Jam bandmates have gone even bigger and better. Recently, the band came together to contribute $70,000 to a certain Keith Baxter, who apparently saved Vedder’s life after a boating accident in Hawaii over a decade ago.

Baxter, who was in a serious boating accident himself a year ago, now requires expensive and extensive medical care. His family started a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $75,000 and along with the donations from the various members of Pearl Jam, the campaign has raised more than $140,000 already. Four members of the band donated $14,000 each, while an identical amount has been credited to guitarist Stone Gossard.
