Remember that time pop star Justin Bieber appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show sporting a Metallica tee? Well, Metallica’s James Hetfield is finally speaking up about the situation, and he sees nothing wrong with it.

"I remember when that whole 'Justin Bieber wearing a Metallica T-shirt' went viral, I thought 'So what?'" Hetfield said in an interview with the New York Post.

If you recall, some metal fans were pretty upset about the situation, asserting that Bieber likely didn’t know enough about Metallica and metal history to have the honor to sport the shirt.

"If he doesn't know the history of the band or whatever, it's fine," Hetfield said. "I wear lots of stuff and I have no idea of the history, I just like the logo."

"People try to shock me sometimes and they’ll say, 'My grandma headbangs to your music -- and she’s 120!,' or 'I named my baby after you,'" he added. "I'm like, 'OK, cool.' I'm not surprised that anyone likes Metallica."

So, if you’re worried about championing Metallica in your clothing but don’t remember when Ride the Lightning came out, don’t sweat it.

"From cradle to grave, we've got you covered!" Hetfield said.

Metallica are currently touring North America on a stadium tour to promote their new album, Self-Destruct.
