Foo Fighters Answer Crowdfunded Concert Call
Foo Fighters will play a crowd funded concert in Richmond, Virginia, after fans pledged the $70,000 required to stage the gig.
The Foo Fighters RVA campaign on Crowdhoster was launched by fans who had observed that the band hadn’t played in town since May 17, 1998.
“That's more than 15 years ago and that's way too long,” organizers wrote. “So we're taking it upon ourselves to bring 'em back!” Campaign mastermind Andrew Goldin said "Rather than waiting, and waiting and waiting for our favorite band to come to us, we're making it happen.”
Fans were asked to pledge $50 for a ticket to the show. Two local businesses each pledged $5,000 with a promise to give the resulting tickets away, and over the weekend the band tweeted to organizers, “Well, well, well... See ya soon...let's have a good time.”
The date for the show has not yet been set but it’s a pretty fair bet that the band will be touring behind their next album, due in November and chronicled in their forthcoming HBO TV series, Sonic Highways.
