Devo’s Bob Casale Dead At 61
Founding Devo member Bob Casale has died from conditions related to heart failure. He was 61. Casale served as guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist for the New Wave pioneers, which also included his brother Gerald Casale. The other members of Devo’s classic line-up were brothers Mark Mothersbaugh and Robert Mothersbaugh, and Alan Myers. Guitarist Tom Morello was among those who praised Casale, issuing a tweet that said, “RIP Devo guitarist Bob Casale. Great guitar stylist. Hugely influential on me. First ‘non metal’ show I attended and he/they floored me.”
Gerald Casale confirmed news of his brother’s passing with the following statement: “As an original member of Devo, Bob Casale was there in the trenches with me from the beginning. He was my level-headed brother, a solid performer and talented audio engineer, always giving more than he got. He was excited about the possibility of Mark Mothersbaugh allowing Devo to play shows again. His sudden death from conditions that lead to heart failure came as a total shock to us all."
