Ana Popović by Ruben Tomas

In anticipation of the upcoming release of her triple album, Ana Popović has just released a new single titled ‘She Was A Doorman’. On May 20, the Serbian-born, Tennessee-based blues guitarist and singer will release the three-volume album Trilogy. The album, divided into Morning, Mid-Day and Midnight will feature a different genre – blues, jazz and funk - on each volume.

Trilogy is produced by Grammy Award winner Warren Riker (Lauryn Hill, Carlos Santana), Grammy Award winner Tom Hambridge (Buddy Guy) and Delfeayo Marsalis, one of the top trombonists, composers and producers in jazz today. Guest appearances include Joe Bonamassa, Robert Randolph, Bernard Purdie (The Purdie Shuffle), Cody Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars), rapper Al Capone and many others.

The new track premiered earlier this week on the Guitar World site, alongside an interview with Popović where she talks about the process of recording Trilogy. On the jazz side of the album, Popović used a Gibson ES-175, which she said was “a whole new guitar for me. It’s uses a different setup and clean tone with nothing to cover it up. This also was the first time I’ve experienced playing with a jazz band, and it was absolutely fantastic. The phrasing is completely different but the groove is still there.”
