Eric Clapton with his ES-335After months of rumors and innuendo, it’s now final—musical legends Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood will reunite for their first full shows together in more than 40 years. Clapton and Winwood, former bandmates in the ‘60s supergroup Blind Faith, will play three shows at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden on February 25, 26 and 28, 2008.

The announcement comes on the heels of the pair’s dramatic reunion this summer at Clapton’s Chicago Crossroads Guitar Festival. Winwood joined Clapton on stage during Slowhand’s set for several songs, including a few numbers from Winwood’s old band, Traffic.

“I have wanted to play with Steve for a long time,” Clapton said in a statement. “I consider him a friend and a truly gifted musician. Our set at the Crossroads Festival this summer was a real treat, so I expect these shows will be good fun for us and for the fans.”

Their musical paths first crossed in 1969 when the British duo got together and formed Blind Faith. The band, however, only stayed together for one tumultuous year, producing one classic album with a very controversial cover. They also toured briefly in 1969, with the first stop being MSG in New York on July 12, and the final Blind Faith show taking place in Hawaii on August 24. They have remained friends ever since, and have jammed together a few times for various one-off charity events.

Steve Winwood“I'm very excited about these upcoming shows with Eric,” Winwood said in a statement. “Blind Faith was a long time ago and we have both come a long way since then. It was a wonderful experience for me to play at Crossroads this summer, and I'm really looking forward to exploring some more music together in February.”

The two are currently in rehearsals for the upcoming shows, which will be produced by Ron Delsener for Live Nation. Tickets will go on-sale first to American Express cardmembers through a special pre-sale, beginning Monday, Nov. 12th at 9am (EST). Tickets can be purchased via ticketmaster.com.
