On August 12 it's been seven years since the great Les Paul passed away, and Jerry Garcia has been gone for twenty-one years, which is really hard to believe. 1967 - Fleetwood Mac played their first gig as a band during the National Jazz and Blues Festival in Windsor.

1969 - Photographer Iain McMillan shot the Beatles for their Abbey Road album cover during a quick photo session at the crosswalk outside the famous studio of the same name.

1979 - Led Zeppelin played their last show in the UK. The concert took place at Knebworth House in England. The set started with "The Song Remains the Same" and ended with "Communication Breakdown."

1987 - U2 went to number one on the US charts with "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." It was the second song from Joshua Tree to reach the top spot.

1989 - The Moscow Music Peace Festival took place over two nights, featuring the top names in hard rock and heavy metal at the time, like Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, The Scorpions, and Skid Row.

1992 - A riot broke out after Axl Rose cut a Guns N' Roses gig short, claiming his throat hurt. Earlier in the night Metallica, who were touring on a double bill with GN’R, had been forced to stop their show as well after James Hetfield suffered burns to his arm from the band's on-stage pyrotechnics.

1994 - Woodstock '94 took place in upstate New York, and featured bands like Aerosmith, Metallica, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
