Gibson has announced its partnership with the 41st annual Montreux Jazz Festival, in which Gibson will participate as the official musical instrument provider of the festival and title sponsor of the Gibson Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition. The festival takes place July 6-21 in the spectacular city of Montreux, Switzerland.

Founded in 1967, the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival has become a must-see event for music fans from all around the world.  No longer just a jazz festival, this two-week, multiple-venue event now features musical styles of every genre imaginable. All the greats—including musical icons B.B. King, Ray Charles, Miles Davis, and David Bowie—have performed on one of the festival’s many indoor and outdoor stages.

On Saturday, July 7, the opening weekend, Gibson will present a Night at the Auditorium Stravinsky in support of the headlining Gibson band Heaven and Hell, an all-star collaboration of current and former Black Sabbath members and legendary rockers Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Ronnie James Dio, and Vinny Appice.

Throughout the weekend, festivalgoers can visit the Gibson booth in the Auditorium Stravinsky, where they will find a variety of Gibson’s famous electric guitars, including high-end jazz models to be presented to the winners of the annual Gibson Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition, as well as an opportunity to enter and win a free Gibson or Epiphone guitar.

The Gibson-sponsored Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition was founded in 2004 by the Montreux Jazz Festival in memory of the great jazz guitarists of the past. To preserve this tradition, promising young guitarists of all nationalities are invited to demonstrate their skill to a panel of expert judges, which this year will include the legendary jazz guitar virtuoso George Benson. The competition is an all day event that will take place on Thursday, July 12 in the intimate setting of the historic Montreux Palace Hotel.
