A celebration of one of the most enduring and innovative genres, this past weekend’s Newport Folk Festival in Newport, Rhode Island opened Friday night with a rare performance from 10-time Grammy-winning vocalist Linda Ronstadt, who performed all of her greatest hits.

The festival, first held in 1959, hosted an assortment of folk acts, both classic and contemporary. Among others, these Gibson artists all took the stage at the Newport Folk Festival: the Allman Brothers Band, North Mississippi Allstars, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Martha Wainwright, Emmylou Harris, Amos Lee, Tom Morello, Alejandro Escovedo, Elvis Perkins in Dearland, and Sierra Hull & Highway 111.

Gibson also hosted an open mic at the festival. The first 10 people to sign up at the Gibson tent played their unpublished, original songs, and were offered Gibson guitars for use during their performances.
