by Digital Boy

Editors' Note: DigitalBoy is just plain weird. We found him spreading sun tan lotion on and a beach towel hanging in his cubicle searching for summer musical festivals on the six search engines he had opened on all his browsers. He was even singing to himself. DigitalBoy never hums, much less sings. We took his behavior as a sure sign the Summer festival and concert season is here. Join DigitalBoy now on his crusade for sun, music and some Summer fun. Be brave.

Two festival sites will keep you up-to-date on hundreds of music festivals and tours scheduled throughout the Summer of '99.

Check out the worldwide festivals.com. There you'll find a wide array of Summer music festivals for every genre but also listings of art, sports, motor festivals and more. They have a generous and flexible search engine that allows you to find festivals by entering as little information as a month or single state. There's even a world map that allows the user to click on a region for a listing of the festivals in that area.

Their features site focuses on things to see and do on on a special holiday or theme such as corn fests or water carnivals. They also list a Greatest Event on Earth featured site that continually changes. This month it's the Bill Monroe Memorial Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival, June 15 - June 20, Bean Blossom, IN. The late great Bill Monroe, a Gibson mandolinist extrodinaire, founded this festival in 1965 as a way to bring his buddies together to play that "high lonesome" sound he pioneered, and today this festival keeps his memory bright through five days of the very best bluegrass and country music. What's more, there is travel, weather, and resource information necessary for the real world traveler.

Digital Boy's favorite feature is their poll, " Have you gone to an event that your mother warned you about?" The poll requests a "yes" or "no" answer and explanation. There you can confess about the event that in spite of Mom's warnings, you attended. Or maybe there is one, that you went to knowing that had she known, she certainly wouldn't have approved. We believe DigitalBoy confessed at least 28 times.

Also check out festivalfinder.com. You'll discover the latest details on more than 1,500 music festivals in North America. Click to your favorite genre, or use the search feature to locate festivals by date, location, performers or festival name.
