Corporate Controller

COMPANY OVERVIEW
Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Gibson Guitar Corporation manufactures and distributes musical instruments around the world.  Gibson is the premier manufacturer of musical instruments, including the Epiphone, Baldwin, and Slingerland brands.

SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Corporate Controller that can offer outstanding “executive presence” in every sense of the term.  Successful candidates will have superior leadership qualities; outstanding written and verbal communication skills; and an ability to successfully manage and motivate an accomplished staff, negotiate, build bridges when necessary with external and internal consulting partners, and present complex financial information to audiences with varying degrees of financial expertise.  The Corporate Controller must be a “hands-on” individual with a solid technical understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, technical research experience, analytical and problem solving skills, and an ability to develop and maintain a strong internal control and financial reporting environment.  While the Corporate Controller will have the responsibility for overseeing all accounting functions (including financial reporting, tax, and regulatory compliance), they will also be expected to work at the highest level of operation as an integral strategic contributor, working very closely with key operating partners and senior management.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Education and Experience
•     Active CPA certification
•     Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minimum of 10-12 years of relevant experience working with a national public accounting firm or an international, multi-location entity corporation
•     Extensive experience with accounting systems, financial reporting, and financial policies and procedures

•    Ability to effectively communicate—verbally and in writing—with all levels of the organization
•    Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, etc.)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Staff and provide leadership direction to the corporate finance group and divisional controllers
•    Conduct regular one on one meetings with the controller’s and plan divisional controller meetings to optimize the dissemination of information and best practices between divisions
•    Train and lead staff to perform at an optimum level of performance
•    Review and prepare company financial statements on a timely and accurate basis
•    Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
•    Establish and maintain a comprehensive system of internal controls to ensure the safeguarding of all company assets and ethical financial reporting
•    Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets and consolidation and reporting to the Company. 
•    Ensure credibility of accounting group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.
•    Track revenue and expenses closely and create a “no surprises” culture
•    Monitor and control of cash flows and operating and cash forecasts.
•    Understand and support the critical accounting needs to enable operating departments to optimize profits while monitoring and controlling expenses.
•    Provide leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short- and long-term strategic financial objectives.
•    Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives so as to identify their needs and seek full range of business solutions.
•    Provide executive management with advice on the financial and accounting implications of business activities.
•    Understand and ensure proper accounting for all contractual arrangements
•    Facilitate the successful completion of internal and external financial audits by coordinating work with and delivering information requested by auditors on a timely basis
•    Other special projects and responsibilities as assigned.
