If you ask any guitarist what tuner they use on their pedalboard, almost all will answer the Boss TU-2. Over the years, the TU-2 has proven its worth as a road-worthy and accurate tuner, as well as a pedal power station. Now from Boss comes the new TU-1000, a new monster-sized tuner and proof that a pedal tuner can be both bigger and better.
The new TU-1000 “Professional Stage Tuner is a large pedal that looks like a rack tuner melded with Knight Rider’s red strobe display and the Starship Enterprise! It features a huge, striking, and high-intensity LED meter for visibility that promises to be visible on dark stages or the outdoors. It also has two outputs, and can power up to six standard pedals with use of a daisy chain.
The tuner’s tracking appears smooth and somewhat entrancing. In fact, I think I could find myself getting pleasantly distracted while tuning onstage, perhaps even mesmerizing some concert goers in the front row! The unit’s build is similar to that of Boss’s dual pedals and is well built to handle the rigors of the road. Combine this with the large display, presets for alternate/open tunings (Delta Blues/DADGAD, etc.) and power station, and this pedal could earn some real estate on my already crowded pedalboard!
