White Stripes to Play Conan O’Brien’s Last ‘Late Night’ Show

Jerry McCulley | 02.18.2009

Former husband and wife duo Jack and Meg White will reactivate the White Stripes, performing together for the first time in nearly 18 months this Friday night on the final episode of NBC’s Late Night With Conan O’Brien.

The world-conquering indie rock duo has been largely sidelined since Sept. 2007, when the band cancelled 18 American gigs and a highly anticipated UK tour after drummer Meg White suffered a bout of severe anxiety. She appeared onstage briefly last June in Detroit with Jack’s side project, the Raconteurs, although she did not perform.

Friday’s show also marks a landmark for O’Brien – it’s his final gig hosting Late Night before SNL star Jimmy Fallon takes over the show on Mar. 2. Conan replaces Jay Leno as the new host of the Tonight Show on June 1.
