Tenacious D to Open for Metallica, Fête The Who

06.16.2008

Tenacious DWhile Tenacious D’s  Jack Black and Kyle Gass aren’t exactly planning on sobering up their comedy-rock act for an upcoming gig opening for Metallica, they are adding a somewhat serious component to their act—a tribute to the Who.

“We’re doing some concerts in August, opening for Metallica and we are very excited,” Black told WENN. “We’ve decided to use the occasion to pay some kind of tribute to the Who and do a medley of sorts, probably from the Who Live At Leeds, which is the greatest live album of all time. I can’t wait to play in front of that many people; we’ve never played as huge a crowd as 50,000, so it’ll be fun.”

Tenacious D are scheduled to perform at the Reading and Leeds festivals this summer on August 22 and 24 and they’ll open for Metallica in Dublin on August 20 at Marlay Park. The duo has released two albums, 2001’s Tenacious D and 2006’s The Pick of Destiny.
