Slash’s First Solo Album to Feature Izzy, Flea and Steven Adler

Ellen Mallernee | 07.17.2009

On Wednesday, Slash took to his MySpace page to tell all about his first solo album, which has shaped up to be chock full of exciting guest appearances and former GN’R alumni.

“My record should be done next month and the recording has gone smoothly and sounds great,” wrote Slash. “Steven Adler played on the first of the last three tracks yesterday, along with Flea on bass. The song kicks ass and the drums and bass sound so recognizable and sound so good.”

Slash, 43, noted that Adler is clean and sober and that Flea is “just amazing, period.” He discloses that the three have been friends for decades, since meeting in West Hollywood as aspiring musicians.

He writes, “Flea was the first one to join an ‘established’ band called Anthem, I remember being envious. I had a band called Tidus Sloan but we didn’t have a singer. Sound familiar?

“Steven and I didn’t really have a band together until a few years later when we joined Nikki Sixx’s old band in London after Izzy [Stradlin] left. Which, incidentally, was very short lived.”

Speaking of Stradlin, Slash reveals that the ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist has also joined him to cut tracks on the upcoming album.

“Our guitars together really do have a sound all their own,” Slash writes. “Having Flea, Steven and Izzy play has been a real gas. There might be a couple more surprise musicians on this record I think.”

In addition, Slash has been in the studio with Ozzy Osbourne, M Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold, onetime Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney and former Nine Inch Nails drummer Josh Freese.

Slash’s album is being produced by Eric Valentine, the man behind bands like Third Eye Blind, Good Charlotte, Taking Back Sunday and Queens of the Stone Age.

Slash has previously said that he looks at this album as his chance to “do stuff I haven’t been at liberty to do in a long while.”
