Trey Anastasio Announces First Show in 2 Years, Fuels Phish Reunion Hopes

05.30.2008

Trey AnastasioBeloved Phish frontman Trey Anastasio will soon make his first public performance in two years—at the inaugural Rothbury festival in Rothbury, Michigan during the July 4th weekend.

Anastasio has been largely out of the spotlight since Phish played their final show in 2004 and since pleading guilty of felony drug charges in 2007. Last summer, Anastasio released the instrumental album The Horseshoe Curve.

Anastasio's upcoming festival gig has done little to quell rumors that he's interested in reuniting with Phish.

He told Rolling Stone last week, “When Phish broke up, I made some comment about how I’m not gonna go around playing ‘You Enjoy Myself’ for the rest of my life.

"And it’s so funny because Fish and Mike and Page have been talking to each other a lot lately and now—it’s not that I can’t believe that I said that, but it's symbolic of how much I lost my mind or how much I lost my bearings or something. Because at this point in time I would give my left nut to play that song five times in a row every day until I die. I certainly thought about that while I was in jail."

Billed as a "sustainable camping festival celebrating music, art, and action," the Rothbury festival will take place July 3 - 6. There, Anastasio will perform a one-hour acoustic set, Billboard.com reports. Former Phish band members Jon Fishman and Mike Gordon will also perform separate sets, Fishman with the Yonder Mountain String Band.

A festival press release says, "The unique festival site offers trails, forests, fields, lakes, and beach fronts, and even on-site lodging, bars, and eateries."
